Kalyon Holding is hiring a Senior Architectural Design Manager in Abu Dhabi to lead the architecture team on a major rail project. The manager owns the engineering team's technical position on architectural design, approves review comments before they go out, and chairs the design coordination meetings where architecture meets structure, MEP and landscape.
What the role involves
- Manage the Architectural Lead, the architects, the Lead Landscape Architect, the Material Architect and the Senior ID Architect
- Own the engineering team's technical position on architectural design and design-intent matters
- Approve architectural review comments and technical query responses before they are issued
- Chair architectural design coordination meetings with the designer, including interior design and landscape
- Escalate unresolved architectural, accessibility or fire / life safety non-compliances to the Engineering Manager
- Oversee architectural input into design changes, value engineering and materials / finishes decisions
- Monitor discipline KPIs and report progress to the Engineering Manager and the Design & Engineering Director, making sure architectural interfaces with structure, MEP, BIM and landscape are managed proactively
- Support tender / procurement technical input for architectural specialist subcontract packages
Requirements noted by the source board
- Bachelor's degree in architecture (B.Arch.); a master's degree is preferred
- Registration with a recognised architectural body (RIBA or equivalent) is required
- Minimum 15 years of architectural experience, with proven management of design or design-review teams on major transport / station projects
- Experience on a high-speed rail or metro project of similar scale is required
- Fluent written and spoken English is mandatory; Arabic is an advantage
- Able to chair technical meetings, negotiate design positions with the designer and the employer, and produce board / client-ready reports and presentations
