Who hires in Bahrain — and for what work
Bahrain's foreign workforce is concentrated in construction and contracting, hospitality, restaurants and retail (above all in Manama), logistics and warehousing, facilities and building services, and industry — the island's manufacturing base, including the aluminium sector and its contractor ecosystem around Sitra and the industrial areas, employs fitters, fabricators, technicians and operators alongside general workers. As in the bigger Gulf states, the route in matters: a direct employer with its own workforce generally offers clearer terms than a manpower supplier placing workers with clients.
The work-permit route — LMRA
Work permits in Bahrain are issued through the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) (lmra.gov.bh). The employer applies for the permit before you travel — a genuine Bahrain job starts with the employer arranging the LMRA permit in your name, followed by entry, a medical examination and issue of your CPR (the Bahraini identity card). Workers coming from Pakistan use the same legal route as for any Gulf country: a licensed Overseas Employment Promoter, the demand checked on the BEOE portal, and the Protector of Emigrants stamp before departure — the full steps are in our agent-verification guide. Anyone offering to sell you a Bahrain visa outside the employer's LMRA application is running the same scam pattern as elsewhere in the Gulf.
How a Bahrain pay package usually works
A typical offer combines a basic salary with some mix of housing (shared accommodation is commonly provided on construction, facility and industrial work), transport, and food or a food allowance. As in the UAE, the split between basic and allowances matters at the end of service, because end-of-service benefits are calculated on the basic — read the split in your written offer, not just the total. We will publish Bahrain salary ranges trade by trade once two sources support each figure; until then, judge any offer by its full written package.
Living costs and sending money home
Manama is a compact capital and worker living costs are generally lower than in Dubai, with shared accommodation the norm at entry level. For workers whose housing and transport are provided, personal spending is mainly food (where not provided), mobile and daily costs, and most of the salary can be sent home through banks and licensed exchange houses — keep the receipts for every transfer, as anywhere in the Gulf.
Your rights — the official place to check
The LMRA is the authority for work permits and worker services in Bahrain — its website publishes employer and worker guidance and is where permit status can be checked. Keep copies of your contract, CPR and payslips at all times, and use the same discipline as in any Gulf country: written offer first, headline claims last.
