Salary by segment — the part most websites hide
A single "average salary" for this job would mislead you. In Kuwait the word driver covers three differently-paid jobs — light-vehicle and company drivers on a fixed monthly salary, delivery drivers whose pay can mix a fixed salary with commission or per-order incentives, and heavy-vehicle drivers on the matching heavy licence — so the segments below separate them by vehicle and licence type. House drivers for private families are a separate legal category again, covered in the questions below. Overtime and commission are NOT included in any figure on this page:
| Segment | Monthly salary | Note |
|---|---|---|
| New arrival — light-vehicle, company and delivery offers | KWD 180 – 300 / month | Documented in current advertisements reviewed Oct 2026: Bayt Kuwait driver listings this month carried a KWD 154–309 band for a mid-career driver role and a food-delivery car driver at KWD 250 a month plus commission with the car provided, and current Kuwait City advertisements put a house driver at KWD 250 a month and a full-time company driver in Shuwaikh at KWD 260–300 depending on experience. The first rung sits at or below the bottom of this band — Bayt’s current entry-level delivery listing runs up to KWD 155 — and the headline band is where standard light-vehicle offers overlap |
| Experienced — heavy vehicle, truck and tanker offers | KWD 250 – 400 / month | Documented in reported-salary data reviewed Oct 2026: Naukrigulf puts Heavy Driver in Kuwait at an average of about KWD 314 a month (reported range KWD 184–496) and Truck Driver at about KWD 339 (reported range KWD 218–615). Heavy work needs the matching Kuwait heavy licence category and proven experience; tanker and oil-sector contractor work sits at the top of this segment. Trip allowances and overtime sit on top of the basic and are not counted in these figures |
| Market figure, all experience levels | ~KWD 287 / month average (reported range KWD 184 – 447) | Naukrigulf reported salaries for Driver in Kuwait, based on 127 salaries, checked 23 October 2026 — includes experienced company drivers, heavy drivers and long-service staff, so do not expect it as a first offer. A second reported dataset for Light Vehicle Driver in Kuwait (average about KWD 277 a month, reported range KWD 198–397) lands in the same place, which is why the headline band above is set from current advertisements rather than from either average |
What the job involves
Driving cars, pickups and vans for companies, shops, restaurants and delivery networks — staff and document runs, goods and food delivery on set routes, and airport and errand driving; light-vehicle work for private households as a house driver (a separate legal category — see the questions below); and, on a heavy licence, trucks, trailers, tankers and staff buses for logistics, construction and oil-sector contractors. Daily vehicle checks, keeping the vehicle clean and fuelled, route planning around Kuwait City traffic, delivery paperwork, and safe, legal driving in extreme summer heat are part of every version of the job.
What your total package usually includes
For drivers in Kuwait, the package usually comes down to accommodation and whether the vehicle, fuel and licence costs are the company's problem or yours — the table below shows what each part normally means in this trade:
| Part of the package | What it usually means in practice |
|---|---|
| Housing | Shared accommodation is standard at entry level. Some employers give a housing allowance instead — a room and cash are not worth the same, so ask which one your offer includes. |
| Transport | Company transport to the site is common on project work. City jobs may give a transport allowance, or nothing at all — and if it is nothing, that cost comes out of your salary. |
| Overtime | Paid on top of basic when hours run long. Get the rate — and how the hours are counted — in writing. "Overtime available" with no rate attached means very little. |
| Medical | Employer-provided health insurance, arranged as part of the job. You should receive the insurance card — not have to chase anyone for it. |
| Air ticket | A return ticket home every 1–2 years is standard in most contracts. Check the interval, and whether it covers family (at this level, it usually covers you only). |
Count these before you judge any offer. A slightly lower salary with housing, transport and overtime paid can leave you with more in savings at month's end than a higher headline figure without them.
On a Kuwait driver offer, confirm in writing: accommodation provided or an allowance, who pays for fuel and vehicle maintenance (on a company role it should be the employer), how overtime and any commission are calculated, which residence the job is on (Article 18 company work or Article 20 household work), and who pays for your Kuwait licence if you do not hold one yet — those answers are worth more than a small difference in the basic figure.
How pay is structured for drivers in Kuwait
Most company driving in Kuwait is a fixed monthly salary under the private-sector Labour Law, paid through the banking system, with overtime on top at a premium rate when shifts run long — get the overtime rate and how hours are counted into the contract, because long days are normal in transport and delivery work. Two parts of the market work differently. Delivery work can mix a fixed salary with commission or per-order incentives (the food-delivery advertisement we reviewed paid KWD 250 plus commission), so a quiet month pays less than a busy one and only the fixed part can be budgeted on. House drivers are paid a monthly salary by the household, usually with the room, meals and car provided, under the domestic-workers rules rather than the private-sector law. The legal minimum wage of KWD 75 a month is a floor in the law, not a market rate — every band on this page sits well above it.
Where driver jobs are concentrated in Kuwait
Kuwait City and Hawally hold most company, office and delivery driving — trading companies, restaurants, retail delivery networks and the Shuwaikh industrial and port area. Farwaniya and Mahboula add large residential and services demand, Jahra adds logistics and agricultural transport, and Ahmadi is where the heavy, tanker and oil-sector contractor driving concentrates. Household driver demand follows the residential areas across all of them. Project and logistics hiring rises and falls with contracts, so a heavy-driver demand should always be checked as currently live before you pay anyone anything.
How to get this job safely
1. Apply to the company directly, or go through a licensed Overseas Employment Promoter — nobody else. 2. Before you pay a single rupee, verify the agent's licence and check the job has a Permission Tracking Number (the guide below shows how). 3. Get the salary, the overtime rate and the accommodation written into the contract — a verbal promise made in an agent's office tends to disappear at the airport. 4. Never hand your original passport to an unlicensed person, and never travel for work without the Protector stamp.
Frequently asked questions
Why do some websites say Kuwait drivers earn KWD 500 to 900 a month?
Those figures describe the top of the market — senior tanker and oil-sector drivers, transport supervisors and VIP chauffeurs — or modelled averages that mix those roles in with everyone else. Naukrigulf’s own reported averages for the ordinary titles are about KWD 287 for Driver (127 salaries), KWD 314 for Heavy Driver and KWD 339 for Truck Driver, and current advertisements for the light-vehicle roles a new arrival is hired into cluster at KWD 180–300. Plan your first contract on the band for the vehicle and licence you actually hold.
Do I need a Kuwait driving licence to work as a driver in Kuwait?
For almost every role, yes — and Kuwait’s licence rules for expatriates are the strictest in the Gulf: ordinary residents generally face salary, degree and residence conditions, but professional drivers are treated differently because driving is the job itself, and the licence is linked to the driving profession on your residence. Most current advertisements ask for a valid Kuwait licence, which is why many company roles are filled by drivers already in Kuwait transferring to a new sponsor. If you are applying from overseas, get it in writing who arranges and pays for the licence and whether the job starts only once it is issued.
What is the difference between a house driver and a company driver in Kuwait?
They are different legal jobs. A company driver works under an Article 18 residence in the private sector — Labour Law No. 6 of 2010, wages paid through the banking system under the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) rules, the KWD 75/month legal minimum wage as a floor, and an end-of-service indemnity. A house driver works under an Article 20 residence for a private household under the domestic-workers law instead — live-in work, with the family providing the car and usually the room and meals, and different hours and rest rules. The pay ranges overlap, but your rights do not — know which residence your offer is on before you sign.
Is accommodation and food included for drivers in Kuwait?
It depends on the category. Company contracts commonly include shared accommodation, and the vehicle and fuel are the company’s cost — the Bayt food-delivery advertisement we reviewed provided the car. House drivers normally live in a driver’s room with meals provided. Delivery roles vary the most: some provide the vehicle, fuel and a phone line, others expect more from the driver. Confirm each part in writing, including whether anything is deducted from salary for housing or food.
How can I earn more as a driver in Kuwait?
The steps that pay are the heavy licence (trucks, trailers and tankers average above light-vehicle work in the reported data), tanker and oil-sector contractor experience around Ahmadi, a clean Kuwait driving record, and Kuwait experience itself — current advertisements pay for local route knowledge and an existing Kuwait licence. English, and some Arabic, help for company and passenger work. None of that is a first-contract figure: it is the ladder after your first Kuwait contract.
