Salary by segment — the part most websites hide

A single "average salary" for this job would mislead you. Housekeeping covers three different workplaces that pay differently — facilities and mall cleaning through a contractor, hotel housekeeping (room attendant, public-area and laundry work), and hospital and compound housekeeping — and experience moves you up inside each one. This page is about company employment under the Saudi Labour Law; private-household domestic work hired through Musaned follows different rules and is covered separately in the questions below. Overtime is NOT included in any figure on this page:

SegmentMonthly salaryNote
New arrival — housekeeping attendant and cleaner offersSAR 1,200 – 1,800 / monthDocumented in current advertisements and pay guides reviewed Oct 2026: a Bayt housekeeping attendant listing in Riyadh at SAR 1,500/month (1 year of experience), and current Saudi facilities and mall housekeeping guides putting entry roles at SAR 1,200–1,500 a month and experienced attendants at SAR 1,500–1,800, usually with shared accommodation and transport provided. The headline band is where those entry offers overlap
Experienced hotel room attendant — 1 to 3 yearsSAR 2,000 – 2,500 / monthDocumented in reported salaries reviewed Oct 2026: Naukrigulf puts Room Boy — the room-attendant title used across Saudi hotels — in Saudi Arabia at an average of SAR 2,125 a month from 4 reported salaries, with the reported range SAR 2,000–2,500 for workers with 1 to 3 years of experience (SAR 2,000 at 0–1 years, SAR 2,166 at 1–3 years). Branded hotels in Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh are where this segment is normally earned
Market figures, all experience levels — read with careCleaner ~SAR 2,435 / month average (Naukrigulf, 150 salaries); Paylab Cleaner survey band SAR 2,000 – 3,561 (80% of respondents)Reported-salary platforms sit above first offers because their samples include experienced staff, team leaders and supervisors as well as attendants. Naukrigulf reports a Cleaner average of about SAR 2,435 a month in Saudi Arabia from 150 salaries (reported range SAR 2,000–4,000), and the Paylab Saudi survey puts 80% of cleaners between SAR 2,000 and SAR 3,561 — but Paylab itself notes fewer than 20 verified respondents for these titles, so treat its band as a small-sample guide only. Neither figure is a first offer

What the job involves

Cleaning and preparing guest rooms to the hotel standard — making beds, changing linen, cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms, restocking amenities and reporting maintenance faults; cleaning public areas such as lobbies, corridors, restaurants, prayer areas and washrooms; laundry work — washing, drying, ironing and folding linen and uniforms; in facilities and mall work, sweeping, mopping, waste collection and washroom servicing across large public spaces on a rota; in hospitals, cleaning wards and clinics to infection-control rules, including colour-coded cloths and correct chemical use. The work is physical, shift-based, and judged on speed plus inspection scores — rooms and areas are checked by a supervisor before they are released.

What your total package usually includes

For housekeeping staff, the package is most of the job's real value — shared accommodation, duty meals and transport are normally provided at this level, and together they are worth a large share of the salary itself:

Part of the packageWhat it usually means in practice
HousingShared accommodation is standard at entry level. Some employers give a housing allowance instead — a room and cash are not worth the same, so ask which one your offer includes.
TransportCompany transport to the site is common on project work. City jobs may give a transport allowance, or nothing at all — and if it is nothing, that cost comes out of your salary.
OvertimePaid on top of basic when hours run long. Get the rate — and how the hours are counted — in writing. "Overtime available" with no rate attached means very little.
MedicalEmployer-provided health insurance, arranged as part of the job. You should receive the insurance card — not have to chase anyone for it.
Air ticketA return ticket home every 1–2 years is standard in most contracts. Check the interval, and whether it covers family (at this level, it usually covers you only).

Count these before you judge any offer. A slightly lower salary with housing, transport and overtime paid can leave you with more in savings at month's end than a higher headline figure without them.

On a housekeeping offer, confirm in writing: accommodation provided and whether anything is deducted for it, duty meals or a food allowance, transport to the site, and how overtime in peak seasons (Ramadan, Hajj and Umrah peaks in Makkah and Madinah) is counted and paid.

How pay is structured for housekeeping staff

Housekeeping attendants are paid a fixed monthly salary through the Wage Protection System. Two things sit on top in hotels: overtime in peak occupancy periods — pilgrim seasons in Makkah and Madinah, holidays and events in Riyadh and Jeddah — and, in some hotels, a service-charge share, which is variable and never guaranteed, so never count it when comparing offers. Facilities and mall contracts are plainer: the written basic plus overtime is the whole pay. Judge every offer on its written salary and its provided room, food and transport — at this level those provided parts decide what you actually save.

Where housekeeping jobs are concentrated

Makkah and Madinah hire housekeeping staff all year for pilgrim hotels and serviced apartments, with the heaviest overtime in Ramadan and the Hajj season. Riyadh follows with business hotels, hospitals, malls and facilities contracts across the capital, then Jeddah (hotels, malls and the airport corridor) and the Eastern Province (Dammam, Khobar and Jubail — hospitals, compounds and industrial facilities). Facilities-management and cleaning contractors are the biggest single employers; branded hotels are the smaller but better-laddered route.

How to get this job safely

1. Apply to the company directly, or go through a licensed Overseas Employment Promoter — nobody else. 2. Before you pay a single rupee, verify the agent's licence and check the job has a Permission Tracking Number (the guide below shows how). 3. Get the salary, the overtime rate and the accommodation written into the contract — a verbal promise made in an agent's office tends to disappear at the airport. 4. Never hand your original passport to an unlicensed person, and never travel for work without the Protector stamp.

Stay safe: A real job never requires paying an unlicensed agent. In Pakistan, only use a licensed Overseas Employment Promoter (OEP), check the job on the BEOE portal, and remember the licensed agent's service charge is capped at Rs 15,000 — paid through a bank and released only after you join the job. Frequently asked questions

Why do some websites say housekeepers in Saudi Arabia earn SAR 4,000 or more?

Those figures describe supervisors, executive housekeepers and small survey samples, not attendant offers. The Paylab survey band for the Housekeeper title runs up to SAR 6,066 — but Paylab notes fewer than 20 verified respondents for the title, and the title there includes senior household and department roles. Current advertisements for attendants cluster around SAR 1,200–1,800 for new arrivals, and Naukrigulf’s reported Room Boy average for experienced attendants is SAR 2,125. Planning a first contract on a supervisor figure is how workers get disappointed.

Is housekeeping open to expatriates, or is it Saudi-only?

It is open to expatriates. Room attendant, laundry, public-area cleaning and housekeeping work appear on no Saudization list in force for 2026 — the hotel roles reserved for Saudi nationals are front-of-house roles such as receptionist, not back-of-house housekeeping. Facilities contractors and hotels across Saudi Arabia hire Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi and other expatriate attendants every month.

What is the difference between this job and domestic housekeeping through Musaned?

They are different legal jobs. This page covers attendants employed by a hotel, hospital or facilities company under the Saudi Labour Law — monthly salary paid through the Wage Protection System, Labour Law hours, overtime and end-of-service benefits. A domestic worker hired into a private household through Musaned works under the domestic-workers regulation instead, usually lives in, and is commonly advertised around SAR 1,100–1,500 a month. Do not sign a company offer expecting household work, or the other way round — check which contract you are being given.

Is accommodation and food included for housekeeping staff?

Usually, yes — shared accommodation and duty meals (or food) plus transport are the standard pattern in hotel and facilities housekeeping at this level, and current pay guides list them as normally included. That is why a SAR 1,500 offer with room, food and transport provided can leave more savings than a higher offer without them. Confirm each part in writing, including whether any amount is deducted from salary for housing or food.

How can I earn more in housekeeping in Saudi Arabia?

The ladder is attendant → senior attendant → team leader → supervisor, and the step that unlocks it is usually English: supervisors write reports, take guest and client requests and brief teams. Hotel brand-standard training, laundry and chemical-handling knowledge, and a clean inspection record are what floor supervisors are picked from. Naukrigulf’s figures show experienced room attendants reaching SAR 2,000–2,500 — the realistic next step after a first contract, not the first offer.
